FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions about Private Safaris

What is a private photography safari?

A private photography tour is a private African safari designed around you: your preferred dates, travel companions, pace, accommodation style, and photography interests. Rather than joining a scheduled group departure, you travel on an itiniary created specifically for you and personally accompanied by me.

Do you personally accompany every private photography safari?

Yes. I design the Itiniary with you and personally accompany the safari as your photography guide. I will be with you in the field, share the game drives and sightings, and provide photography guidance throughout the journey.

Who are private photography safaris for?

They are ideal for friends travelling together, families, photography groups, milestone celebrations, returning safari travellers, or anyone who prefers a more private and flexible experience. They can also be designed as women-only journeys where requested.

How many people can join a private photography safari?

Group size is flexible. I can help design an intimate journey for two, a private trip for a small group of friends or family, or a larger photography-focused expedition. The ideal group size will depend on the destination, vehicles, and type of experience you would like.

Can I choose my own dates?

Yes. One of the main benefits of a bespoke expedition is that you choose when to travel. I will advise on the best season for your preferred destination, wildlife sightings, weather, and photography conditions.

Which destinations can we visit?

Private photo safaris can be designed in destinations such as Tanzania, Kenya, and South Africa, as well as other African destinations depending on your interests. Together, we will choose the location that best suits the wildlife, landscapes, and photography experiences you are looking for.

Do I need to be an experienced photographer?

Not at all.
Private safaris are suitable for complete beginners, enthusiastic hobbyists, and experienced photographers. I will meet you where you are and tailor the guidance to your confidence level, equipment, and creative goals.

What kind of photography support is included?

Support can include help with camera settings, composition, light, wildlife behaviour, positioning in the vehicle, reviewing images, and developing your creative eye. The level and style of guidance are shaped around your experience and interests.

Can we focus on specific wildlife or photography themes?

Yes. We can design the journey around particular interests, such as big cats, elephants, birds, landscapes, migration movements, or conservation-focused experiences. We can also allow more time for patient wildlife photography and image review.

What type of accommodation can we choose?

Accommodation is tailored to your preferences and budget. Options may include luxury lodges, intimate tented camps, or a thoughtful combination of both. I will recommend places that suit your style of travel and the overall rhythm of the journey.

Can the itinerary include cultural experiences or conservation activities?

Yes. Depending on the destination and your interests, we can include carefully chosen cultural encounters, community visits, conservation experiences, or other activities that add depth to your journey.

How much does a private photography safari cost?

Pricing is tailored to your destination, dates, group size, accommodation style, itinerary, and inclusions. Once I understand your vision, I will prepare a personalised proposal with a clear breakdown of what is included.

What is included in a private photography safari?

Inclusions vary by itinerary but may include accommodation, meals, safari activities, park fees, private vehicles where available, guiding, and photography support. Your proposal will clearly list what is included and what is not.

How far in advance should we start planning?

For the best choice of camps, guides, and travel dates, I recommend beginning the planning process 9–18 months in advance. However, it may still be possible to create a wonderful journey with less notice, depending on availability and destination.

How do we begin?

Simply send an enquiry with your approximate dates, destination ideas, group size, and what you most hope to experience. I will then be in touch to arrange a conversation and begin designing your private expedition.
